``I know you! You were in my school last week!`` a boy of about 8–9 years old said to me excitedly. ``Oh, really?`` I replied, both intrigued and delighted, and immediately remembered that boy who throughout the whole programme had seemed distracted by something else.
“I think I remember you too… Your name is Luca, isn’t it?” “Yes, my name is Luca.” “Do you remember my name?” I asked him. He didn’t even let me finish the question before he began reciting very quickly: “Yes! He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, 1 Peter 2:24!” “Wow, well done, Luca! You remembered the verse we learned together last week!”
This happened to me last year before Easter, in the town of Deta (Timiș County), when together with a group of teenagers we were distributing evangelistic booklets and invitations around the town to the next special Easter programme for children, held at another location. This is how the Word of God remains imprinted on the minds and hearts of children and, without doubt, has the power to change their lives. But someone has to go and plant that Word in their minds. I decided to be one of those people who go, and I do it with joy, convinced that God has given me this privilege.
I have good news for you, reading these lines: you too can be someone who contributes to this beautiful work of planting the Word of God in the minds of children! With God’s help and your support, in the coming weeks I am planning to reach approximately 500 children with Easter programmes in several public schools and community centres in Timiș County.
In addition to the Word spoken in a way they can understand (a Bible lesson, a memory verse, a song, a quiz), the children will also receive the written Word in the form of age-appropriate evangelistic booklets, cards with the memory verse, and of course a few sweets. We need 60 people each giving €20, so that all the costs can be covered. Will you be one of those 60 people? If you wish, you can give less or more than €20— what matters is that you give joyfully for the work of God.
Will you join me in the work of evangelising the children of Timiș County, on the occasion of the celebration of our Saviour’s resurrection?
Christ died and rose again for each one of us — and for every child! Let us go and tell them, and help them understand what this great truth means!
